Isaiah 60:1-6

by Norma Fong Chan

Glow in the Dark

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.”

Sometimes when it seems hectic in my professional life, my family life, and my community life, it is challenging to keep life’s focus where it needs to be—with God. This verse encourages me to wake up, lighten up, and enjoy the spirit of love and light in my life. And the next verse continues talking about darkness and about the light that will overcome the darkness.

I am always amazed at how a single small candle’s light can overcome a room of darkness, and my family and I are always thrilled when we discover something that can glow in the dark. Which made me think of how all of us are, in a sense, glow-in-the-dark people. Since we continually keep ourselves fueled by God as the light source, we have the ability to glow in the dark areas of life and to shine in dark situations.

What a great encouragement the Isaiah passage gives us by reminding us that God’s glory, God’s resurrection power, God’s wisdom, and God’s light are always there to guide us, empower us, and glow through us.

Prayer

Dear Lord, no matter what life challenges are before us now, we are thankful for the lessons they will teach us. Thank you for loving us so much that you even want to shine your love and light through us in a world of darkness. Help us glow in the dark. Amen.
