Revelation 3:7-13
by Wayne Eng
Where are you in your faith? We are about to celebrate the coming of Jesus and all the Christmas spirit and joy of family gatherings, food, friends, and gifts of the Messiah. For Mary and Joseph, Christmas came with many costs as she had a child in a stable in the cold and dark, with no help or caretakers.
The Revelations reading triggered my Advent devotion this year by reminding of how God knows what we have done in our lives and what will happen at Jesus’ return. If the reading seems strange, that is OK. I had to read it many times.
We will no longer be placed on trial. God knows of our faithfulness and loves us for all we have done to worship, study, and love him. God has reserved a space for us. Wow!
It’s all good, right? Actually that assumes we have performed as God hopes. So no one really knows except you with your personal relationship with God.
As I reflect on the reading and think about how it relates to my life at this time, I wonder about all the times I’ve let God down. It’s good to be reminded of that as we get ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus. How are we going to welcome this gift?
Prayer
Lord, many times you’ve left the door open for me, but I’ve walked past and not taken advantage of the opportunity. Keep giving me chances to enter your kingdom. Let there be no doubt of your welcoming me home. Amen.
