Micah 4:1-5; 5:2-4
by Dave Miller
Oh, how I long for the world as seen in Micah! I long for a world in which people stream to God to be taught God’s ways and to walk in God’s path. I long for a world where swords are no more, a world where all the money we now spend on armaments is spent instead on ensuring everyone is well fed. I long for a world where no one is afraid. I long for a world where magically everything is right and good.
But, no, it won’t happen by magic. As the word of God tells us and as I know from the whole history of God’s presence among us, we’re called to take part in turning the world as it is now into that world. People will stream to God because God has called them and also because we’ve opened our doors so that they can hear God’s call. War and hatred will cease because God plants peace in people’s hearts and also because we work tirelessly to root out the causes of war. Fear will be gone because God loves everybody and also because our own love shows God’s nurturing embrace to others.
We celebrate today the birth of our Savior, and we celebrate how through him we are empowered to bring into being God’s plan for our world.
Prayer
God of power and love, our hearts overflow with joy that you sent Jesus into our world. We thank you that through a tiny baby you reach out to embrace us and to show us the way to a new world. Amen.
