Deacons for the English Worshipping Community

At the Presbyterian Church in Chinatown, we walk through life with one another, in times of joy, celebration, challenge, and sorrow.

The Board of Deacons is in the process of re-creating an organized ministry of care and compassion. As the PCUSA Book of Order puts it, “The ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress.”

We seek to be the organized caring arm of PCC. We offer confidential listening, comfort, and support. If you are homebound, ill or hospitalized, or in a care facility; grieving, going through challenges, in need of someone to listen or pray with; or just want to share joys, ideas or concerns, the Deacons are here for you.

We can visit you at home or meet you at a place by mutual agreement, such as a coffee shop. Our conversations are confidential. Visits can be time-limited. They are not stewardship calls, nor is clinical pastoral counseling provided.

To arrange a visit or meeting, or make a referral for care, please contact englishdeacons@pccsf.org at (email address), or if you have completed a Pew card, someone will contact you within the week. Alternatively, don’t be surprised if a Deacon reaches out to you! We want to get to know you better!

I give you a new commandment, that you love

one another. Just as I have loved you,

you also should love one another.

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,

if you have love for one another.

John 13: 34-35
